Welcome
to Lake Wylie!
You are probably visiting this web site because you have
already chosen

Lake Wylie as your home or are thinking about doing so.
Lake Wylie offers a down-home atmosphere along with
access to whatever your interests might be. Bordering
North Carolina in The Old English District of South
Carolina, Lake Wylie is close to Charlotte, NC, a major
commercial and financial center. The schools are among
the best in the state. Current population in the town of
Lake Wylie is approximately 8000.
Interstates I-77, I-85 and Highway 49 make Lake Wylie
easily accessible from all directions. You can visit the
South Carolina beaches or the Blue Ridge Mountains
within a 3 hour drive. In this region sporting and
cultural events abound.
There are beautiful golf courses in every direction.
However, the biggest draw is the lake itself, OF COURSE!
In 1904 a dam was constructed on the Catawba River which
created Lake Wylie. One of six lakes created on the
river, Lake Wylie is the oldest. The dam was rebuilt in
1924 and is owned by Duke Energy. Lake Wylie includes
12,455 acres and 325 miles of shoreline ideal for
boating, fishing and water skiing. The lake's busy
season runs from April to September. The Carolina Show
Ski Team practices on the lake and performs at annual
events which include festivals and boat parades.

Lake Wylie is unique in the fact that there are many
towns close to the lake. There is a wide range of
housing including luxurious lakeside homes, secluded
wooded neighborhoods and bright modern condominiums.
These all make for an atmosphere of resort style living.
There are any number of opportunities for you to find
the perfect home, if you're looking to live in this
outstanding area.
From the waters of Lake Wylie you can enjoy spring
flowers, fall colors plus a number of parks, landings,
marinas and restaurants with docks. Fishing is great on
Lake Wylie and draws many fishing tournaments. The two
largest creeks are Big and Little Allison. If the fish
aren't biting there try either Beaver Dam or Crowders
Creek. However, you can usually find fish anywhere a
dock is standing in the water. Fish include bass,
crappie and catfish. Fishing on the S.C. side requires a
S.C. fishing license. Fishing on the N.C. side requires
a N.C. fishing license. So be sure and take a lake map
with you to show you where the borders are!
